LEARNING TO DRIVE

In order to become a fully-fledged driver you will need to pass three tests; the theory test, hazard perception and the practical driving test.

THE PROCCESS

The theory and hazard perception tests are taken at the same time and you need to be successful in both before you can move on to do the practical test which will typically be six weeks after your application is made, although this will depend on where you live.

THE THEORY TEST

The theory and hazard perception tests are taken at the same time and you need to be successful in both before you can move on to do the practical test which will typically be six weeks after your application is made, although this will depend on where you live.

THE HAZARD PERCEPTION TEST

Otherwise known as the second part of the theory test, the hazard perception test deals with testing the candidates’ ability to identify and deal with potential hazards on the road. Here you will be shown a set of 14 video clips each of one minute in length showing possible hazards involving pedestrians, road conditions and road users. There are a maximum of 15 hazards to identify and each one can earn you up to five points depending on how quickly you manage to spot them. In order to pass you are expected to score a minimum of 44 out of a possible 75. Your pass certificate number lasts for 2 years. You must pass your driving test in that time, otherwise you’ll have to pass the theory test again.  This can be booked online on the www.gov.uk website.

The fee for both the theory and hazard perception test is currently £23.00 and to make sure you are fully prepared you should study the recommend books and CD Rom below that can be purchased from Amazon new or used. www.amazon.co.uk
